May 23 New Chev TraverseFebruary 10 THE FIRE OF 10 FEBRUARY 2009 A trailer behind and to the left burnt to the ground. I heard a loud noise at about 12:45 and looked out all windows and did not see a thing. I went back to bed now 12:55 AM. I heard voices and when I got up I could see that fire glow at the add a room windows. I got Shirley awake and got her to dress as I called 911. It seemed to take forever to get Shirley in the truck and drive down the street aways. I went back and connected a garden hose to the tap. The firefighters are on the seen, but they run out of water. I was spaying water on my the side of the trailer behind us and on the shed of the trailer on fire. I wanted to keep that shed and trailer from catching fire as, it would have spread to our trailer. One of the big propane tanks was on fire and one of the two fire hoses was on that, when they got water. I was not sure if it would blow or not.
The guy that lost his trailer, just come home from work and smelled gas. He got his wife up and collected the dogs. The furnace started and blew him across the room. They all got out safe, but it was a very close call for him and his wife.
Both trailers on each side of the burnt trailer have extensive damage and the one accross from us has extensive damage on the back and right hand side. We have a some buckled siding on our shed. Our trailer has no signs of damage as far as I can tell. We were so close to loosing the whole block!! If the shed of the burnt trailer caught fire, it would have spread to our shed and then on to our trailer. The wind was blowing the flames directly at our shed and trailer, but if finally shifted so it was blowing straight behind down the row of trailers. I watched the red embers land on the roof of the trailer across the street. I would have to say for having such a bad thing happen, it was so close to being much much worse. We are fine but a bit shaken. Here is a link to the photo's;
October 28 WE FULLTIMED MAY 2004 TO JULY 2008We bought a 4 season park model in Bay Medows, Consecon, Ontario and this is were we will be spending this winter. Shirley was diagnosed with breast cancer and had a double mastectomy . The good news is, she is now cancer free and did not require chemotherapy or radiation. She is on a drug cancer prevention treatment for the next 5 years, which reduces the chance of the return of the cancer from 20% to 10%. So far the side affects seam to have diminished to an acceptable level, but time will tell. We have a reservation at Wilderness Lakes, Texas for 15 Nov 2009 and we may do more summer camping in Canada. We are tentatively planing a trip to Nova Scotia next summer. Shirley is not well enough to travel yet and out of country medical insurance is a show stopper until January 2009 and possibly longer. Now I have to get the truck manual out and read about and get familiar with winter operation of a diesel truck. Here are a few pictures of the park model that is now our home. April 21 Wrap up of Texas to Ontario 2008 We are in our home park. The fuel log shows we drove 2710.6 miles from Texas, of which maybe 150 miles was without the trailer. Used 199.3 gallons of fuel at a cost of $974.90. We averaged 13.6 miles per gallon, with a high of 15.5 and a low of 11.6.
Leg 10 took us from Chattanooga to Nashville, TN. The Nashville County RV park was OK for an over night stop.
Leg 11 took us from Nashville, TN to Louisville, KY. Stayed at the Louisville South KOA.
Leg 12 took us from Louisville, KY to Indianapolis, IN. Stayed at the Indianapolis KOA.
Leg 13 took us from Indianapolis, IN to Auburn, IN. Stayed at Auburn KOA, which advertises free wireless that does not work.
Leg 14 took us from Auburn, IN to Port Huron, MI. Stayed in Port Huron KOA, which was very nice. We had a large, long, level pull through with a cement pad. They have up-dated a lot of their sites.
Leg 15 was a long run of 296 miles home. We hit Toronto at a good time, but due to the entrance ramp of highway 400 being blocked we had stop and go travel.
Here is a link to leg routes Leg routes April 12 TIME TO DO SOME ALMOST SERIOUS TRAVEL We are just under 1100 miles from home and it is time to do some serious travelling. Well at least serious for us. We have 5 maybe 6 stops planned and just about all are just overnight. I estimate between $500 and $600 in fuel cost. Would be less but, I have to fill the tank to-day for out trip in the AM. Below is the planned route and stops.
